A priceless hoard of ancient jewellery has gone on display in Co Mayo.

The 2,000 year old gold torcs, bronze bracelets and amber beads were discovered on a beach in Dooyork.

They have been claimed by the National Museum and are being exhibited at the Museum of Country Life in Castlebar.

Spokesperson Mary Cahill said that the find is unique.

“It's a very important archaeological find, partly because of the fact that it's a combination of materials - gold, bronze and amber," she said.

"This is the first time we have had this particular range of objects together in a hoard. We're still actually figuring out just where in the bronze age or the iron age they fit in."
