SIPTU to oppose child benefit tax

SIPTU has said it will strenuously oppose any Government attempts to introduce taxes on child benefit.

The union said there are major moral, political, social and legal reason why taxes on children and families should not be increased.

SIPTU’s national equality secretary, Rosheen Callender, said any plans to tax childrens' allowance are unwarranted because the allowance is only just reaching an acceptable level.
