Labour Party leader Ruairi Quinn claimed Finance Minister Charlie McCreevy almost certainly lied to the electorate when he said last May that there would be no government cutbacks.

Referring to a leaked memo, circulated in June, which called for €900m in cutbacks, Mr Quinn said the minister would have been aware of these reductions when he made his comments.
