INO to take industrial action at DIT
Members of the Irish Nurses Organisation are to begin industrial action against the Dublin Institute of Technology at 8am this morning.
The dispute centres over the alleged refusal of the DIT to furnish four long-term temporary nursing staff with permanant contracts.
The INO contends that the Department of Education have made provision for the creation of these posts.
It also says the DIT has gone against a year of negotiations by refusing to grant the contracts.
The organisation adds that this arrrangement means the nursing staff are treated as casual workers - and let go during summer months.
The INO says that if this industrial action fails, they will be calling on other unions at the DIT to join them.
The dispute begins as the DIT re-opens its doors for the Michaelmas term.
