Opposition parties welcome referendum date

Members of the opposition parties are welcoming today's announcement of a polling date for the Nice Treaty referendum.

Taoiseach Bertie Ahern declared Saturday October 19 as the day to go to the polls. It is the first ever Saturday referendum.
