Voters urged to register for referendum

Minister for Environment and Local Government, Martin Cullen, is urging all those who are not yet registered to vote to do so before October's Nice Treaty referendum.

Minister for Environment and Local Government, Martin Cullen, is urging all those who are not yet registered to vote to do so before October's Nice Treaty referendum.

To be eligible to vote, a person must be an Irish citizen of 18 years or over. They must also be resident in the State.

Applications are available from Garda stations or the Department of Environment and Local Government.

All applications must be witnessed by a Garda or an official of the local city or county council.

If a person is unable to attend their local garda station due to illness, a medical certificate must accompany applications.

The final date for receipt of completed forms is October 4, 2002.

Mr Peter Greene, Principal Officer in the Department of the Environment and Local Government has been appointed Returning Officer for the referendum.
