UEFA delegation to hold press conference
The UEFA delegation assessing the joint Ireland-Scotland bid to host Euro 2008 will hold a news conference this evening
A delegation of officials from the soccer body visited site around the capital today to assess the facilities available for the tournament.
The delegation made a brief visit to Abbottstown where Taoiseach Bertie Ahern still hopes to build Stadium Ireland with private sector funding.
He admitted that there had been no overt expressions of interest in the project but he said that there are many people who wish to be involved in the national stadium.
Delegates visited Croke Park and the Taoiseach has asked the GAA to provide the stadium if the Ireland/Scotland bid is successful.
However even if Ireland was to have two stadia available the joint bid will face tough competition from the Austro/Swiss proposal.
