Mid-West nurses vote for strike over pay

Theatre nurses at three hospitals in the Mid-West have voted overwhelmingly in favour of strike action over low pay rates for being on call.

Theatre nurses at three hospitals in the Mid-West have voted overwhelmingly in favour of strike action over low pay rates for being on call.

The nurses are due to begin a work-to-rule in Limerick, Ennis and Nenagh next Monday, but the Irish Nurses Organisation has insisted the action will not affect patient care.

Spokesperson Helen Rouine said nurses currently receive a €17 flat rate for an on-call shift, which can often last for between 12 and 15 hours.
