Man to appear in Dublin Court in connection with drugs seizure
A man is due to appear in Dublin District Court later this morning in connection with a drugs seizure, worth an estimated €2m, in Maynooth yesterday.
His arrest is part of an investigation into what gardai believe is one of the largest drug smuggling and money laundering operations in the state.
The seizure was the result of an extensive operation involving the Garda National Drugs Unit, the Fraud Unit and the Criminal Assets Bureau.
The drugs, which were found in a house, are thought to be cocaine and heroin.
Over the past number of days a large number of searches have taken place in Dublin and the surrounding area, and on Tuesday, three men were arrested under the Drugs Trafficking Act. Two of those men have since been released without charge, but the third will appear in Dublin District Court this morning.
The operation is being hailed as a major success against one of the country’s biggest criminal gangs.
