There are fears this morning for hundreds of jobs at the Tellabs telecommunications facility in Shannon.

Staff at Tellabs are expected to be told by management today that their jobs are on the line.

Tellabs has already introduced a major cost-cutting restructuring plan which resulted in the closure of its plant in Drogheda last year.

That closure resulted in the loss of 204 jobs.

The company, which manufacturers telecommunications equipment, is a major employer in Shannon, with 400 people working there.

Management are due to address the workforce this morning.
