Location to be selected for Bertie Bowl

The government committee appointed to look at all possible options for the so-called Bertie Bowl is putting the final touches to its report.

It is reported that Dublin’s Phoenix Park has been considered by the group as a possible site for the new national stadium.

The report is due to be completed by tomorrow.

It is not yet known whether the committee will recommend a single site or assess a number of different ones.

The committee’s report will be presented to Cabinet next week as the pressure increases to make a final decision on the stadium.

UEFA officials are due in Dublin on September 16. If a decision is not made by then, it is likely that Ireland will loose its chance to host the 2008 European Championship finals.
