The Department of Health has asked the Western Health board for clarification on the 169 posts to be axed there.

In another development the Department has revealed that in June only 30 of the 418 posts allocated to the WHB had been filled.

In a statement tonight it is reiterating it’s position that the savings of €1.8m needed in the WHB could be made through 85 job cuts.

The fact that only filled 30 posts out of 418 allocated to it for this year would seem to suggest that last year the board went over budget on staffing.
