Marine Minister backs Jeanie Johnston project

The Minister for the Marine says the latest initiative regarding the Jeanie Johnston project provides the only real alternative to an unstructured liquidation.

Kerry Co Council and the Tralee Urban District Council have decided to take over the project in partnership with Shannon Development and the Kerry Group.

Minister Dermot Ahern says this might well be the final chance to preserve the use of the vessel for the Tourism and Heritage purpose, for which it was originally intended.

Kerry Group is also launching a major fund raising effort, to ensure the Jeanie Johnston can undertake its long awaited voyage to the US next year.
