The two were arrested last night after officers discovered what they described as a ‘‘major counterfeit currency operation’’ in Newtownabbey, Co Antrim.

Between €400,000 and €475,000 of forged euro and pound sterling bank notes are believed to have been seized.

A police spokesman said: ‘‘A substantial quantity of counterfeit euro and sterling bank notes has been recovered along with equipment for use in the manufacture of them.’’
