Despite all the warnings to slow down and take care over the Bank holiday weekend, road accidents claimed the lives of eight people.

The latest accident, which occurred in Carrick-on-Suir on the Waterford-Tipperary border, claimed the life of a seven-year-old boy. A vehicle struck the boy as he ran across the road.
