Four dead in accidents on roads overnight

Four people have been killed in three separate road accidents around the country overnight. Two brothers were killed when the motorbike they were riding on collided with a car one mile outside the town of Fethard, Co Tipperary.

Both died within minutes of the accident, which occurred at around eight o’clock last night. In Swinford, Co Mayo, the driver of a car lost his life in a two car collision at around half past two this morning.

Four people including the driver of the other car were taken to Mayo General Hospital in Castlebar.

Meanwhile, a two-car collision in Rathkeale in Co Limerick killed one man and left seven others in hospital. The accidents have come despite repeated calls from the Government, Gardaí and insurance companies for extra care on the roads.

Motorists are being urged to slow down and take extra care to prevent any more needless deaths on the country’s roads. During the previous four bank holiday weekends this year, 21 people died in car crashes.
