UUP supports Belfast rally
Both sides of the community are gathering in Belfast today to protest against all sectarian violence in the North.
The protest march comes in the very recent aftermath of the murders of David Caldwell in Derry and Gerard Lawlor in Belfast.
Michael McGimpsey of the UUP has stressed the importance of today’s rally.
Mr McGimpsey said: “A rally such as this is important because it is the only way the ordinary man or woman in the street can get a focus for their anger and frustration. Many people have no opportunity to exercise their opposition other than by this mechanism.”
Thousands are expected to turn out in Belfast today, so far including trade unionists, members of the teachers union, Sinn Fein and the SDLP, among ordinary Belfast people as well.
