The Union of Students in Ireland has organised a demonstration in Dublin city centre today to protest against the Government's decision to increase third-level registration fees by 69%.

It will now cost €690-a-year for students to register for their courses, a move the USI has described as the reintroduction of college fees.

Union president Colm Jordan said: “Students are facing an enormous amount of costs going into college and this is going to add to the financial hardship that’s on students.

"We’ve already seen spiralling increases in accommodation costs and this has added to an already worsening problem.”
