A Government-appointed taxi hardship panel is due to make recommendations soon on compensation payments for taxi drivers whose once lucrative plates were significantly devalued following the deregulation of the industry.

Unions representing taxi drivers are seeking up to €80,000 for some members who are still paying off the loans they took out to purchase taxi plates.
