Irish soldiers in Kosovo to take on infantry duties

Lieutenant General Colm Mangan, the chief of staff of the Irish Defence Forces, has revealed that Irish soldiers will become involved in infantry operations in Kosovo from next year.

Lieutenant General Colm Mangan, the chief of staff of the Irish Defence Forces, has revealed that Irish soldiers will become involved in infantry operations in Kosovo from next year.

The 120 Irish troops currently stationed in the Serbian province are involved mainly in transportation.

Next year, the numbers will more than double and will become involved in "civil military operations" where soldiers try to influence how the Serbs and ethnic Albanians relate to each other.
