Northern Secretary to address House of Commons on IRA ceasefire

The Northern Secretary John Reid will inform the House of Commons today if the IRA is keeping to its ceasefire.

It comes amid Unionist demands for Sinn Fein to be expelled from the Stormont Executive.

Unionists claim the IRA has failed to hold its ceasefire, but Sinn Fein’s Gerry Adams says it is the Catholic community who are the victims of organised attacks.

The UUP’s James Leslie says a lack of action against alleged IRA violence raises a number of questions.

"What security response are we going to see? Why have so few people been arrested? Why have so few people been charged with offences? We want to know what measures are going to be put in place to put those matters right."
