Govt urged to condemn US over Population Fund

The Irish Family Planning Association has called on the Government to condemn US President George W Bush’s decision to withhold $35m (€35.2m) from the United Nations Population Fund.

The Irish Family Planning Association has called on the Government to condemn US President George W Bush’s decision to withhold $35m (€35.2m) from the United Nations Population Fund.

The money was appropriated by the US Congress earlier this year.

The IFPA, which is the UN Population Fund’s partner in Ireland, said the decision will inevitably cost thousands of lives worldwide.

The Population Fund provides a range of services including family planning and HIV prevention.
