A Cork man is in custody in Australia charged with helping two Afghan children to escape from the remote Woomera refugee camp, 600 miles from Melbourne.

A Cork man is in custody in Australia charged with helping two Afghan children to escape from the remote Woomera refugee camp, 600 miles from Melbourne.

Jonathan O’Shea, 22, who is in the country on a working visa, is the only foreign national to be charged in relation to the escape.

Mr O’Shea was refused bail and will appear in court again next Wednesday.
