Fine Gael’s Mary Jackman has become the latest candidate to be eliminated from the Seanad elections for the commercial and industrial panel.

Ms Jackman, who failed to secure election to the Dail last May, joins former Fianna Fail TD Tom Moffat on the list of well-known politicians eliminated so far.

Former Waterford TD Brendan Kenneally also looks likely to exit the race.

The Labour Party’s Derek McDowell is still top of the pole, but Fianna Fail’s Kieran Phelan is closing the gap, following by his party colleague Eddie Bohan.

Fine Gael’s Deirdre Clune is also expected to secure election.
