Funeral of Donegal girl takes place today

The 14-year-old girl who died in a field in Donegal last Monday is being laid to rest this morning.

Geraldine Chambers was found dead in a field clutching her teenage friend just yards from her home near Lifford.

Pills and alcohol were found at the scene.

Her teenage friend remains in critical condition in hospital this morning.

Father Edward Kilpatrick, who will be presiding over the funeral Mass, says the community is still numb from the tragedy.

“The feeling around this area at the moment is one of poignancy and sadness evoked by the circumstances of a death in the field in the early hours of a morning. That is now matched by a feeling of numbness and absoluteness sadness at the loss of such a young life," he said.
