Gardai: Mother of dead baby may need medical attention

Gardai in Dublin are calling on the mother of a newborn baby, which was found dead in a park yesterday to come forward.

The newborn baby was discovered in a hold-all bag at Sean Moore Park at Ringsend yesterday afternoon.

Gardai say they are not treating the death as suspicious.

The infant had been wrapped in a towel and placed in a black holdall bag.

Gardai are concerned she may need medical attention and they are asking her to contact her parents, themselves or close friends.

Deputy State Pathologist, Marie Cassidy, attended the scene yesterday for a preliminary examination and determined the baby had reached full term.

A post mortem took place last night but Gardai results would not be released until later today.

They did however say there was no evidence of violence.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Irishtown Garda Station.
