Peter Montgomery is also suing the chief constable of the North’s police and the British government’s Ministry of Defence because of the serious injuries he sustained in the Short Strand area of east Belfast.

Mr Montgomery needed surgery to insert a steel plate into his left arm after he was struck by a plastic bullet.

The Belfast-based United Campaign Against Plastic Bullets is supporting his legal action.
