Three suspended in fisheries row

The Fisheries Board has suspended three of its officers for refusing to drive vehicles marked with the board’s logo.

The body said the suspensions were the result of the officers’ refusal to undertake routine protection patrols on the River Blackwater near Mallow in Co Cork due to safety fears.

The Southern Regional Fisheries Board has insisted that the marked vehicles pose no risk to staff.
