EU abortion debate may turn Nice voters
Nice Treaty supporters are calling on Europe to stop a debate over abortion which may affect the upcoming referendum.
Fine Gael are warning that anti-Nice campaigners may use the abortion debate as a scare tactic during the referendum campaign.
The European parliament is due to debate a proposal on legislating for abortion in all the member states this afternoon.
John Cushnahan MEP from Fine Gael claims that 'eurosceptics' in Ireland will use the debate to say that the EU are trying to force abortion on Ireland.
This will in turn make it more difficult to pass the Nice Treaty according to Fine Gael.
