Ombudsman investigate murdered RUC man

The police ombudsman in the North is investigating the death of an RUC man murdered in 1977.

There have been repeated accusations that his murder was arranged by fellow police officers because he had discovered links between them and the UVF.

Sargent Joe Campbell, a 29 year-old catholic was gunned down outside a police station in the Glens in Antrim.

Subsequently, it has transpired that other officers in Antrim have colluded with loyalists. The Campbell family recently stepped up their campaign to find out the truth behind Mr. Campbell’s killing.

The ombudsman has now announced an investigation of what it calls misconduct on the part of the security forces.
