A hearing is to be held this afternoon as to whether the principal of a Co Meath Gaelscoil should be dismissed or re-instated after suspension.

Tomás O’Dulaing was suspended by the board of management of Dunboyne Gaelscoil following a dispute over the preparation of Catholic pupils for their first Holy Communion at the multi-denomination school.

Mr O’Dulaing was suspended after he decided to hold the preparations after school hours in order to avoid asking Protestant children to leave the classroom.

However the board of management insisted that the preparations should be carried out during the normal school hours and suspended Mr O’Dulaing over three months ago.

The issue will be decided today when the board meets to discuss what action it should take.
