Religious bodies establish commission on child sex abuse
Three bodies representing religious orders in Ireland have established an independent commission to uncover the truth about clerical child sex abuse within the Catholic Church in Ireland.
The Irish Bishops’ Conference, the Conference of Religious in Ireland and the Irish Missionary Union appointed Judge Gillian Hussey to chair the inquiry.
Its terms of reference include an examination of what bishops and religious superiors knew about child sex abuse complaints and what they did to address them.
