Longford teacher wins Teacher of the Year

A Co Longford woman has been named the Primary Schoolteacher of the Year at a ceremony in Dublin today.

Ms Carmel Browne, a second class teacher at Melview National School in Longford, won €10,000 for her school and a holiday to South Africa for herself.

The scheme was set up to recognise the contribution of primary school teachers to the lives of young people and considers nominations that are made by pupils, parents and teachers from throughout the country.
