Review of safety measures to be carried out
The governing body of Irish motor racing has decided to set up a committee to investigate the safety measures at Irish rally driving events in response to last Friday’s crash in Donegal.
The Motorsport Commission met today to discuss what course of action they should take in the wake of the accident in which George Clarke and Gerard McKenna, both aged 22, were killed and three others were injured.
The Commission agreed the appropriate safety measures had been followed at the Donegal Rally but overall safety procedures for future events would have to be improved.
The special committee that will be set up will investigate last Friday’s accident as part of a wider investigation into safety procedures and will report back on its findings on September.
