Co Kerry plant expected to lay off more than 100 workers

The Sara Lee textile plant in Killarney, Co Kerry, is expected to announce plans to halve its workforce later today.

The company is expected to lay off more than 100 workers. Sara Lee set up in Killarney three years ago, investing €31m in a state-of-the-art plant.

In November, it announced 85 job losses, blaming a decline in consumer spending.

The company is worth an estimated €9m per annum to the local economy.
