Two Irish women die in foreign accidents

It has emerged that two young Irish women have died in accidents abroad in recent days.

21-year-old Aoife Griffin from Ballyvary, Castlebar, Co Mayo, died in a Sardinian hospital yesterday. She had been involved in a car accident on the Italian island several days ago.

Her body is due to be brought home for burial at the weekend.

Meanwhile, a 25-year-old Sligo woman has drowned during an adventure holiday in France.

Her body was found today stuck in a kayak which was caught between underwater rocks in the Durance river in the south of the country.

She had been part of a group of 16 holidaymakers in the area. Her companions realised she was missing during a rest period and raised the alarm.

Authorities so far have not released her identity.
