Ex-Maynooth president to meet sex abuse investigator

The former president of Maynooth College is to meet a Government-appointed lawyer this week to discuss allegations made against the former president of the college, Monsignor Micheal Ledwith.

Six former seminarians at Maynooth have claimed that their allegations of sexual harassment against Mr Ledwith were ignored by a number of bishops.

They subsequently brought their complaints to Fr Gerard McGinnity, who has agreed to meet senior counsel George Bermingham to discuss the allegations.

Mr Bermingham was appointed to examine what type of inquiry should be established into clerical sex abuse, particularly in the diocese of Ferns in Co Wexford.

Micheal Ledwith now lives in the US, but he is still a priest in Ferns and therefore his alleged actions come under the senior counsel’s remit.
