Police in Larne, Co Antrim, are due to meet local community leaders this afternoon to discuss an ongoing campaign of attacks against Catholic families in the area.

Superintendent Tom Haylett described the UDA-orchestrated attacks as vile and repulsive and warned that somebody will get killed unless action is taken.

"What we have in Larne is a very serious, orchestrated campaign against Catholic families," he said.

"I’m satisfied it’s UDA-driven. It’s repulsive and vile. Last year, there was over 160 attacks on Catholic homes in the Larne town area and, within the last two weeks, we have had an additional 19 incidents ranging from pouring corrosive liquid over cars, slashing tyres, stoning houses, in addition to recent petrol-bombings. If it’s not stopped, someone’s going to be killed or seriously injured."
