McDaid unlikely to retain cabinet seat

Tourism Minister Jim McDaid is unlikely to retain his place in the next cabinet, according to sources close to the minister.

Tourism Minister Jim McDaid is unlikely to retain his place in the next cabinet, according to sources close to the minister.

Dr McDaid topped the poll in Donegal North-East on May 17, with 3,000 votes more than his nearest rival, despite sparking controversy during the election campaign when he said described suicide victims as 'selfish'.

However, it now appears certain he will not be appointed minister when the incoming Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern, announces his new cabinet later today.

Sources close to Mr McDaid said he is disappointed by the news, but not shocked.
