Figures show rise in unemployment

New figures show a big jump in the number of people joining the dole queues.

According to the national household survey, 80,000 people were registered unemployed in the first quarter of this year.

That is over 14,000 on the same period last year.

Eric Conroy of the Irish National Organisation for the Unemployed says that the figures present a big challenge for the incoming Government.
