A 58-year-old man has been charged with the murder of a Northern Ireland teenager who disappeared eight years ago, police said today.

The unemployed man was due to appear at Enniskillen Magistrates’ Court in Co Fermanagh later accused of killing Arlene Arkinson.

Arlene, 15, from Castlederg, Co Tyrone vanished after going to a disco in Bundoran, across the border in the Republic.

Despite a major police hunt no sign of the schoolgirl was found.

Arlene’s father, Willy, offered a £15,000 (€23,700) reward last November for information which could aid detectives

The man charged was arrested in England earlier this week before being taken to Northern Ireland.
