North to get CAB-style assets recovery agency

Northern Secretary John Reid has announced plans to establish an "assets recovery agency" in the North to give police the power to confiscate the proceeds of crime.

The agency would be very similar to the Criminal Assets Bureau in the Republic and would need legislation before it could be established.

Dr Reid made the announcement at the launch of a report by the Organised Crime Task Force today.
