Former Labour leader Dick Spring has lost his seat in Kerry North.

He said: "Politics is a cruel trade. I would like to feel that I have made a contribution to life in Kerry and to life in Ireland in general."

He continued: "If I had to do it all over again, I would."

Sinn Fein's Martin Ferris topped the poll, with Fine Gael's Jimmy Deenihan and Fianna Fail's Tom McEllistrim also elected.

Micheal Martin has been elected on the first count in Cork South Central, topping the poll with a massive 14,764 votes.

In Cork North-West, Gerard Murphy has been elected for Fine Gael.

He joins Fianna Fáil’s Donal Moynihan and Michael Moynihan.
