Irish peace activist returns home from Israel

An Irish peace activist, who was arrested by Israeli forces at the end of the siege at the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem, is due home later today.

Mary Kelly from Baltimore in West Cork will fly into Dublin this evening after being deported on a flight from Tel Aviv airport.

Ms Kelly had been on hunger strike since she was detained along with seven other peace activists, when the Israeli army lifted it’s five week siege.

Joe Moore of the Cork Peace alliance says she is feeling weak but happy to be home.

“She is due to arrive in Dublin airport at roughly 6.10pm this evening on a flight from Heathrow. I was speaking to her the night before last and she was in good spirits, a little weak but in good spirits all the same," he said.
