The Special Criminal Court in Dublin today fixed December 3 next as the date for trial of a Co Louth man arrested after a garda swoop on suspected members of the Real IRA last year.

Sean Mulligan (51), of Carnalughoge, Louth village is charged with membership of an illegal organisation styling itself the Irish Republican Army, otherwise Oglaigh na hEireann, otherwise the IRA on July 29 last year.

Mulligan was one of four men arrested after Special Branch detectives swooped on a room at the Neptune Beach Hotel in Bettystown, Co Meath.

Today Ms Elisa Mc Hugh, of the Chief Prosecution Solicitor's office, told the court that Mulligan's trial is expected to last two to three weeks.

Mulligan was remanded in custody for trial on December 3.
