Cushnahan hits out at flag plans
MEP John Cushnahan has hit out at plans to change the traditional symbolic flag of Europe.
Plans are afoot for the blue backdrop and gold stars, to make way for a multi-coloured design of the member states’ national flags bunched together.
Fine Gael MEP John Cushnahan hopes it never gets off the ground, ‘it’s like a coloured bar code which you’d get on products in a supermarket, and it really does look like the cloth you’d see on a deck chair’.
"It seems to me what EU leaders should be addressing are the problems of Europe, how to make Europe more understood by it's citizens, instead of tinkering with cosmetic issues like this," he said.
