Adams says Omagh report must be public
Sinn Fein president Gerry Adams has said that the report into allegations that the gardaí withheld an advance warning of the Omagh bomb from the RUC must be made public.
The Government has appointed three civil servants to investigate the allegations, which came to light following an investigation by the North’s Police Ombudsman.
The Ombudsman said she was introduced to a garda who claimed that an informer told how the Real IRA had asked him to steal a car for use in a bomb attack.
However, the gardaí allegedly never passed this information on to the RUC.
Mr Adams said today that the investigation into the allegations must be transparent and accountable and that the allegations themselves highlight the need for a separate Ombudsman south of the border.
