The Progressive Democrats have pledged to reduce Irish car insurance premiums to British levels if they are returned to Government on May 17.

Party spokesperson Liz O’Donnell said: "What we’re saying is that, at long last, the Motor Insurance Advisory Board report has now been published, it does represent the full agenda for change and the next Government has to tackle this because it’s becoming a very serious consumer issue."

Ms O’Donnell also told reporters today that her party’s campaign against one-party Government is not aimed solely at Fianna Fail. She said the PDs’ warning about the dangers of one-party rule applies to all political parties.
