More than £3.4m has been spent on salaries for staff serving the Bloody Sunday inquiry, the Northern Ireland Office disclosed tonight.

More than £3.4m has been spent on salaries for staff serving the Bloody Sunday inquiry, the Northern Ireland Office disclosed tonight.

Junior Northern Ireland Minister Desmond Browne said 35 staff were currently involved, including administrative workers and solicitors.

Subsistence allowances paid to inquiry staff amounted to £241,410 up to last month, he said in a Commons written reply.

The total travel costs, mainly between London and Northern Ireland, were £712,913.

The cost of providing accommodation, mainly in Derry, amounted so far to £363,586, Mr Browne told Tory Crispin Blunt (Reigate).
