Fine Gael has promised to increase maternity leave and to introduce a tax credit for the cost of childcare if it forms part of the new Government after May 17.

Speaking in Galway today, party leader Michael Noonan promised to increase maternity leave from 18 weeks to 24 weeks and to introduce a tax credit for 20% of childcare costs, up to a maximum of €5,000 per child up to the age of five.
